this book is a must have for any full timer that wishes to maintain his/her rv themselves. as a traveling electrician, i sometimes get into areas where getting someone to come out and service my rv isn't possible. this is a good reference book for the do it yourselfer. very in depth and useful. highly recommended.

restoring a camper

A little disappointed.

I picked up this book about a month ago. It does provide an overview look at the various functions that comprise the RV's "systems". I couldn't imagine that one book could provide specific detail on all the variations of those systems out here in the real world. It does a fair job of that though. What I didn't like was that here is an "Updated & Expanded" manual, that starts off with figure 1.1 that is "WRONG". It is a pictorial of a simple tester measuring voltage across a fuse holder. The test light is "ON". The probes are shown at each end of the fuse. If the fuse is "good", there is zero volts between these two points and the test light would be "OFF". If the fuse was bad, again the test light would be "OFF". The negative probe should be displayed as being on a "ground" location. It may seem picky, but I can't find any place in the book to contact the author to suggest corrections. If there are a 3rd and 4th edition of this book, it seems that someone would have brought this up.

A manual that is well illustrated and well though out. There are many repairs and upgrades that I would not have tackled, but am ready to tackle, now. Money well spent!

RV/Camper Roof Repair

Keeping your roof in good repair is essential to the life of your recreational vehicle. Moisture from leaks in the roof is one of the most damaging problems an RV owner can run into. First thing to do is follow your manufacturers recommended maintenance schedule for your roof.

At the beginning of the season last year I went through and resealed all the seems on the roof of our pop up camper, it is a 1997 Jayco. Then on our last trip of the year we got some rain, low and behold a leak appeared. We got home and cleaned and dried out the camper before packing it away for the winter. Upon inspecting the roof I found the problem, but left it alone for the winter. We have the advantage of keeping the pop up in the garage, so I was not worried about putting off the repair. If your camper stays outside you need to address the situation immediately.

I spent some time over the winter trying to decide the best way to repair the roof and not have the same problems again. I have decided on Eternabond as my tool of choice. After researching it seems to be highly recommended throughout the RV community. I will be ordering the Eternabond and begin making my roof repair in the coming weeks.
