Coleman PerfectFlow Camp Grill Review

Coleman PerfectFlow Camp GrillWe finally made it out on our first camping trip of the season and had an opportunity to try out the Coleman PerfectFlow Propane Camp Grill. Normally we take a small portable charcoal grill with us while camping, but picked this grill up at a great price and thought we would give it a try.  If you are a fan of charcoal grilling then this is not for you, but for convenience and ease of use this grill is really great.

Lets first take a look at what comes in the box and the assembly of the grill:

Inside the box you will find the grill unit, instruction booklet , a porcelain coated steel grill grate, drip tray, feet w/screws and the propane attachment tube w/regulator.  Everything was packed well and in perfect condition. After reading the booklet we removed all the packing material and assembled the unit.  Assembly is simple and really only involves turning the unit over and attaching the four small feet with the included screws. A small phillips  screwdriver was all that was required.

Setup for use:

The grill stores folded up just as a propane stove, but is slightly larger.  To get set up and grilling you take the following steps:

  1. Place the grill on a flat and stable surface
  2. Unlock the lid, raise it up and secure the 2 wind guards in place
  3. Remove the propane tube(it stores inside the grill when not in use) and attach a 1 pound propane cylinder
  4. For easy cleanup line the grill under the burner with foil, making sure to punch a hole in the foil for the drip hole
  5. Turn the knob on the regulator and use a long match or stick light to light the grill and you are ready to start grilling

Grilling

Coleman Grill in UseWe found the grill to actually work quite well for a small group.  The first time we cooked bratwurst on the grill without much trouble.  As with any grill you will need to learn the hot and cool spots on the grill surface so you can move the food around as you are cooking.  We had 10 bratwurst on the grill and still had plenty of room for more.  The angled pan under the grill and the grease drip pan kept flareups to a minimum, but we did have a few and would recommend having a spray bottle  on hand for the large flareup.  The grill surface feels very solid and should last for years with proper care.  The second use of the grill we cooked pork steaks, again with no trouble.  The grill is large enough to handle 4 to 5 good sized pork steaks.  Overall cooking on the grill is fast and easy.

Cleanup

Cleaning the Coleman PerfectFlow Camp Grill is very easy if you make sure to line the pan with foil before grilling.  Wait for the grill to cool and remove the grate and wipe clean, remove the foil and wipe the pan, wind guards and lid.  Carefully slide out the drip tray from the underside of the grill and clean it out.  Dry all the surfaces and fold everything in for storage.

Comments

  1. This is a perfect camp grill for the family. We are fond of eating grilled foods. In a way, it is more healthy way of cooking than frying. And grilling foods while camping is the best. Nothing beats barbecue and kebab for the kids.
